A Skincare Line Inspired by Saskatoon Berries... what now?
Happy 2018 All! I've heard a lot of people say that they are not sad to see 2017 behind them. It's been a tough year for me personally. I've had to sacrifice a lot and learn patience on a level I've never known before. I've had to reevaluate what's necessary in life and learn the true value of a dollar. Looking back though, I know I made the right choices and I'm grateful to be where I am in this present moment. Also, I'd like to thank you for your support and interest in my latest venture - Apotheca Borealis, which I have no doubt will be my proudest success. I closed out a turbulent 2017 on a high note - my skin care line is now locally carried in store and online at:

Since I started using Saskatoon berries as one of the main ingredients in my skin care formulations, I really started to notice improvements in my skin clarity and I’m having fewer breakouts even when I’ve been wearing makeup more than usual, especially during some challenging weather periods. Here's an explanation as to why:⠀ ⠀ Compared to other fruits, Saskatoon Berries contain a superior amount of antioxidants which is why the Saskatoon is referred to as a super fruit. The berries are also rich in vitamins A and C, minerals anthocyanins. Anthocyanin's are responsible for the dark purple pigment of Saskatoon Berries.
According to the website TruthInAging.com:
One of the most prominent things that anthocyanin's have been shown to do is suppress inflammation and stabilize collagen. They do so by preventing free radical damage, which inhibits enzymes from clinging to the collagen. One study, in particular, was quite interesting; it determined that anthocyanins from bog blueberries alleviated photoaging and UV toxicity, as well as suppressed collagen degradation on human skin that had been exposed to UVB radiation. Because the blueberries’ anthocyanins diminished the UVB radiation’s collagen destruction and inflammation, the study concluded, “anthocyanins from edible bog blueberry may be protective against UV-induced skin photo-aging."
Now keep in mind - Saskatoon Berries have higher levels of anthocyanin's than blueberries! In a study that compared Saskatoons to wild blueberries, the Saskatoon Berry showed an anthocyanin content of 562.4/100mg versus 558.3/100mg content level found in the wild blueberries. It's all really exciting stuff. View this link for more info on the study: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/18052240
My goal for 2018 is to get the word out on an international level about these amazing berries from the prairies, and see more people switch over from using toxic skin care to natural plant based products. Please help me spread the word about the amazing benefits of Saskatoon Berries by sharing this post through your social media profiles.
I wish you all the best for a happy, healthy and prosperous 2018! ⠀
