Serums... What's the difference?

Serums? Which one is best for my skin type and why use one in the first place?

I get asked this a lot, so I thought I'd start to break it down for you today.

When I'm asked this question, I follow it with "what's your skin type?” because the answer will depend 100% on your response.

Saskatoon Berry Serums

I made my serums with all of you in mind. I know there's a wide range of skin concerns out there because at one time or another, I've experienced them all. Last year I experienced the worst acne break out of my life post-surgery, and this year my skin has been so sensitive that walking through a lounge recently doused with toxic chemical cleaners resulted in an eruption of hives all over my body. But I digress…

Using a serum is the best and easiest way to modify your daily skin care ritual based on how your skin is behaving (or misbehaving) on a any particular day. Serums also amplify the rest of the products that you use in your routine by helping your pores open up become more receptive to the additional treatments such as moisturizers.

This week I’m going to focus on the difference between Saskatoon Berry Serum Lavender + Hyaluronic Acid and Saskatoon Berry Serum Rose + Hyaluronic Acid. Both sound very similar, but in fact do two completely different things.

Saskatoon Berry Serum Lavender + Hyaluronic Acid

What time of complexion is it for?

All skin types, particularly those with oily, acne prone, rosacea and combination complexions

Benefits

  • Saskatoon Berries are high in anthocyanin antioxidants and can help repair skin on a cellular level by reversing free radical damage and providing a natural source of UV protection

  • Saskatoon Berries are high in Vitamin C which aids your skin’s natural regeneration process

  • Lavender is beneficial for all skin types, particularly acne prone and combination skin types

  • Lavender has antiseptic and anti-inflammatory properties which means it not only fights acne, but it can soothe irritated skin caused by rosacea, dryness and eczema

  • Hyaluronic Acid helps reduce the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles by drawing outside moisture to the skin to creating smoother, plumper skin cells

  • This is a nourishing daytime serum for all skin types

Saskatoon Berry Serum Rose + Hyaluronic Acid

What time of complexion is it for?

Dehydrated, combination, mature complexions

Benefits

  • Saskatoon Berries are high in anthocyanin antioxidants and can help repair skin on a cellular level by reversing free radical damage and providing a natural source of UV protection

  • Saskatoon Berries are high in Vitamin C which aids your skin’s natural regeneration process

  • Rose oil has wonderful emollient properties for moisturizing dry skin

  • Rose has anti-inflammatory properties that can soothe redness and inflammation

  • Rose oil will absorb deeply into the skin’s dermis making it particularly effective for hydrating dry and mature skin types

  • Rose will make your pores more receptive to whatever moisturizer and serums you incorporate in your beauty ritual*

  • Hyaluronic Acid helps reduce the visibility of fine lines and wrinkles by drawing outside moisture to the skin to creating smoother, plumper skin cells

  • This is an incredibly hydrating serum for combination and dry skin types and works well as a night time serum

*Please note: Rose oil is best used when NOT following up with a make-up application because the make-up will more easily absorb into your pores!

So my short answer to the initial question “what is the difference?”… Saskatoon + Lavender is great for daily use by pretty much any skin types. If your skin tends to be on the dryer side, incorporate the Saskatoon + Rose into your nightly routine unless you don’t plan on wearing make-up afterward. Both offer natural sun protection so you can feel confident with either choice for daily wear.
